A: 'Tax Amnesty - 2016' is a facility that allows the waiver of penalties and interest on certain outstanding tax liabilities during the period 01.07.2016 to 16.09.2016

A: This amnesty affects the following taxes: Income Tax (including P.A.Y.E), Corporation Tax, Petroleum Tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), Withholding Tax, Business Levy, Further Tax and Additional Tax (See below for definition)


Further Tax is a tax which is charged on any excess of chargeable income that was not disclosed by a Taxpayer in rendering a return of income.

Additional Tax is a penal tax which is charged when a Taxpayer neglects or refuses to render a return of income as required by law.

A: The liabilities waived are:

  • Interest and penalties on outstanding taxes (as listed above)
  • Penalties on outstanding tax returns.

A: Interest will be waived where:

  • Taxes or levy are paid during the Amnesty period (01.07.2016 – 16.09.2016) on any of the above listed outstanding taxes, which, are due and payable for years of income up to and including the year 2015
  • Taxes or levy have been paid prior to the start of the Amnesty period (01.07.2016) on any of the above listed outstanding taxes, which, are due and payable for years of income up to and including the year 2015

A: Penalties will be waived where:

  • Income, corporation, petroleum, VAT and withholding taxes are paid during the Amnesty period (01.07.2016 – 16.09.2016) which are due and payable for years of income up to and including the year 2015
  • Income, corporation, petroleum, VAT and withholding taxes are paid prior to the start of the Amnesty period (01.07.2016) which are due and payable for years of income up to and including the year 2015 (where such penalties have not been paid)

A: Penalties on late filing of outstanding tax returns will be waived where:

  • Income, corporation and petroleum returns are filed during the Amnesty period (01.07.2016 – 16.09.2016) which are due for years of income up to and including the year 2015
  • Income, corporation and petroleum returns are filed prior to the start of the Amnesty period (01.07.2016) which are due and payable for years of income up to and including the year 2015

A: 'Tax Amnesty 2016' does not apply to any penalties & interest paid prior to 01.07.2016
